Brain Health for All Ages

Promoting lifelong brain health through awareness, education, prevention, research, innovation and community engagement.

Niheal Brain Health Initiative

Brain health is fundamental to human wellbeing, productivity, learning, relationships, independence and quality of life across the life course. Yet brain health is often approached only after illness has occurred. There is a need to shift from a predominantly disease-centred approach towards a life-course, preventive, community-based and equity-oriented approach to brain health.

Dementia represents one of the major challenges confronting ageing populations and health systems globally. Its effects extend beyond the individual to families, caregivers, communities, health professionals and economies. In resource-constrained settings, the challenges may be intensified by limited awareness, late presentation, stigma, inadequate access to specialised services and insufficient community support.

The proposed Brain Health for All Ages website will respond to this gap by creating an accessible digital platform through which individuals, families, caregivers, students, educators, health professionals, researchers, community organisations, policymakers and development partners can access reliable information and participate in brain-health promotion.

The concept builds directly on an established professional trajectory. The project portfolio already includes Brain Health for All Ages, maternal mental-health initiatives, arts-based projects, the U-COHUB project, medical entrepreneurship programmes and NIHEAL, which incorporates a component on Awareness and Care for Brain Health and Dementia.

The website therefore represents an opportunity to transform existing experience and networks into a sustainable digital brain-health ecosystem.
